This is a portrait of my friend Leslie. Sometimes I do
portraits of my friends and ask them how they would
like to be portrayed. Leslie wanted to be a mermaid.
Here she is relaxing at the bottom of the sea. To me
she symbolizes the mind at rest and receptive to the
benefits of the unconscious. There is a time in the
creative process where one must relax and be open to
what comes. Ideas swim like fish in the deep waters
of the unconscious mind.
