This image was inspired by Molly, a
large gentle white horse who lived
with friends of mine in Pennsylvania.
Here she is a spirit horse, casting a
reflection on the clouds below. At the
bottom of the work is a kiva, a Native
American place of prayer and medi-
tation, with a ladder simultaneously
descending into its center and
ascending into the sky. The ladder
almost reaches the horse and so
connects the two images. I do not
know whether the person in the kiva
ascends in spirit to ride the horse or
becomes the spirit horse to ride away.
