Like many artists, I often work in series,
exploring an image in multiple ways. Each
series usually starts with a drawing and this
work on paper is the first in the series of the
little child joyfully flying on the carpet and
playing with the friendly bird. As they fly
through the sky, the child with upraised arms
and the bird with upraised wings echo each
other in their joy. The face on the child in this
drawing changed when I made the painting
and the print and ended up looking like people
I know in New York. These changes are not
planned but come out spontaneously and show
that art is produced largely by unconscious
processes.
