THE CENTER OF THE EYE
Oil on canvas, diptych, 55 x 66 in.
This image, which comes from old photographs
of my sister and my self, is based on older
photographs of my mother and my aunt when
they were young. I am sitting on the bed at the
left, looking outward, while lightning, a symbol
of insight, strikes. Ideas often flash into the
mind like lightening. My sister sits on the right
looking inward. The time of lightning has past.
Now the peace of illumination through
introspection shines in and a wind blows the old
away. The floor, windows, and ceiling are sky,
showing that these rooms are a mindscape.
