Archival print available in multiple sizes
In this work the mother and child
form a landscape. She is the sky with
clouds and sun, while he is the land
and the sea. The mother’s halo is
the sun rising above the clouds and
blue sky of her clothing. The boy’s
lower body is transformed into a fish
tail, making him a merboy and a
symbol of the sea. The plant above
him becomes the earth with its
foliage. The space between the two
figures is the horizon line and it is
vertical, inspiring the title, The
Vertical Horizon.
